The NYSDOT awarded Chas. H. Sells, Inc. the preliminary and final design (Phases I-VI) of five miles of highway and bridge reconstruction for the conversion of NYS Route 17 into Interstate 86. Areas of primary concern include:

• Bridge clearance
• Acceleration/deceleration lane lengths
• Highway superelevations and transitions
• Clear zone adequacy
• Guide rail type and conformance
• ROW fencing locations and adequacy

This project will include the analysis for the improvement of three interchanges and bridge site data submissions for as many as four bridges.

Design approval is scheduled for September 2004 and the project letting is anticipated in January 2006. The estimated construction cost is approximately $10.5 million.
